Family Sponsorship

## What is family sponsorship? A monthly commitment to a Syrian family that has lost its breadwinner, covering its essential needs until it can stand again: a monthly food basket, a contribution to rent, and the children's school expenses. Sponsorship is not a passing hand-out. A single donation solves a day; sponsorship solves a month, and then the month after — and that difference is what keeps a family in its home and its children in school. ## Who is this sponsorship for? Families inside Syria that have lost the person who provided for them and have no steady income left. Often a widow raising children, or a family whose breadwinner was injured and can no longer work. These families have not lost their dignity; they have lost their source of income. For that reason sponsorship is disbursed without announcement, without display, and without publishing any photograph of them. ## How is it carried out? **Disbursement.** Monthly, and directly to the family inside Syria. **Documentation.** Disbursement is documented and published in the media center, without revealing the family's identity or publishing its photographs. ## Where? Inside Syria only, in the governorates where Al-Dahabi teams operate. ## What is the difference between sponsorship and zakat? If you specifically want to pay your zakat, the Zakat al-Mal project is the right one, because its funds are allocated to the lawful categories of zakat and are not mixed with anything else. Family sponsorship accepts general charity and sadaqah, and may serve as zakat if the family is among those entitled to it. ## How can I contribute? You can donate once, or choose a monthly donation. Monthly giving is the heart of this project in particular: a family does not need a large sum once so much as it needs a sum it knows will arrive next month too.
